Feel Freedom in Dying Lights New Dev Diary #1: Natural Movement

The developers over at Techland want to run you by their new parkour mechanics in this new dev diary. In Techland’s last 2 zombie games — Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide — the movement was stiff and weighted. It seems they have rectified that problem in Dying Light making the fluid movement a central role in their upcoming zombie co-op slaughter fest.

It’s Been A While…

What’s up, Humanoids! It’s been a while since my last legitimate post. I’ve had a lot of events happen in my life that have detracted me from writing and posting new articles and videos.

The biggest being my move to the East Coast — Washington, D.C. to be exact. My wife landed a sweet federal job which led us to pick up from our home in California and move across country within 2 weeks. It was a whirlwind of a move, to say the least. After getting acclimated to my environment, there was just an utter lack of games coming out during Spring and into Summer.

Sometime around Spring I picked up an Elgaoto Capture HD device so I could start a YouTube channel and post video on this website. But the dry spell of games and the utter saturation of everyone trying to post gaming video deterred me from posting anymore videos, so capturing video fell by the wayside.

But alas, here I sit once again ready to dedicate myself to delivering blog post and now video to this site. Whether you read it or not, whether you watch my videos or not, I’m going to try and deliver the best, most comprehensive lot of content I can provide. I’ll try and get videos with my wife in them, I’ll get videos of new games, I’ll get videos of old games, and I will also get video of games at your request…honestly, I will!

So, if you like what I have posted in the past, get ready because your going to love what I post in the future.

Hellraid Upgraded For Next-Gen Consoles

Hey, remember Hellraid – the fantasy clone of Dead Island that was supposed to be released Fall of 2013 for the 360, PS3, and PC? Well it looks like the guys and gals over at Techland have been working diligently to bring that game up to par from previous generation to next-gen consoles.

Techland released a press statement today stating that their upcoming dark fantasy first-person RPG game – Hellraid – is undergoing a face lift and being retrofitted for the next (or current) generation of consoles – PS4 and Xbox One – as well as PC.

With this overhaul, Techland will be using their new proprietary engine – Chrome Engine 6. This is the same engine that is being used for their upcoming zombie game – Dying Light.

Along with a new engine, Hellraid will be implementing new combat mechanics, a customized class system, character customization, and 3 game modes – Story, Mission (arcade), and Arena mode.

Characters will not be locked into a predetermined class. With a “class-free skill tree” your character will have the freedom to choose how he or she wants to spec their Hellraider throughout the game allowing for deeply customized gameplay. Various active and passive abilities can be customized, as well allowing for combat, magic, and agility path freedom. Players will also be able to create and customize their character with armor, clothing, and accessories.

Combat has been improved as well. You may now equip your character with one or two-handed melee weapons, shields, magic, or ranged weapons. Counter-attacks, parrying, and dashing mechanics will also be implemented in the new iteration of Hellraid.

Lastly, weapon crafting, interactive environments, destructible objects, and adaptive AI will be included in the upgraded version of Hellraid.

PC raiders can look for Hellraid come Autumn through Steam’s Early Access program with PS4 and Xbox One to follow some time in 2015.

Stay tuned here for more info and don’t forget to comment and follow. You can also subscribe to my YouTube channel. Enjoy!

Hot Week For Dragon Age Inquisition – New Trailer, Release Date, Screenshots, and Box Art

This has been a hot week for Bioware’s new game, Dragon Age Inquisition, which is the third installment of the popular Dragon Age series. The slow trickle of marketing from EA and Bioware has begun and the response from media and the public for Dragon Age Inquisition seems to be positive.

Kicking the week off we were graced with the release date of October 7, 2014 and a new trailer showcasing the gorgeous graphics and seemingly new combat mechanics. The new gameplay trailer – The Inquisitor – also offers insight into the storyline and characters

The fun didn’t stop there. Today Bioware released character class details and new screenshots for Dragon Age Inquisition. There will be three (usual) classes: Warrior, Mage, and Rogue. Below are class details as described by Bioware from Gamespot.

Warrior:

Battle-hardened and masters of close combat, warriors are pivotal to any group entering battle. As front-line fighters, they absorb the brunt of opponent attacks, steal enemy focus, and create an opening for deadly ranged assaults from other classes. While some warriors prefer visceral, sweeping damage, many are silverite-clad bulwarks, weathering any blows they don’t deflect with their shields.

Warrior Champion specialization:

Champions are defenders and protectors, and when a warrior trains in the champion’s tradition, he or she becomes unstoppable. Champions use their armor, weapon and awareness to shrug off incoming attacks while holding critical positions on the battlefield and protecting allies in the process.

Mage:

Those who can tap into the raw energy of the Fade and block the whispering temptations of demons are truly exceptional. When they turn that mental focus onto the field of war, they can be truly terrifying opponents. Rains of fire, walls of ice, or even the ability to heal allies make up a mage’s toolkit. Most employ considerable skills rendering foes not only weakened, but also vulnerable to physical attacks, setting up opportunities for their teammates to exploit.

Mage Knight Enchanter specialization:

Among the Circles of Magi, only a few mages have the strength of will necessary to focus their energy inward. Wrapped in protective magics and wielding blades of arcane force, the Knight Enchanters are rare, but inspiring sights as they lead the charge into enemy ranks.

Rogue:

Armed with bows, daggers, and any number of dirty tricks, the rogue’s primary focus is damage: tearing foes down one at a time with systematic efficiency. Rogues commonly use a mixture of stealth and mobility to reach positions of advantage, be it a sniper’s perch away from enemy blades or behind an unsuspecting mage. Deadly and resourceful, rogues can tip the balance of any strategic assault.

Rogue Artificer specialization:

Intricate mechanisms are the core of the artificer’s craft: Deadly traps; Distracting contraptions; Marvels of engineering turned to deadly purpose. If an artificer is standing at the far end of a seemingly innocuous stretch of the battlefield, you should find another path. If he or she is smiling? Best just to hope your affairs are in order.
